El Paso
Independent School District (EPISD):
MIRATEK established an AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) system for a trail based on installing GPS (Geo-positioning) Units on 6 service vehicles for the facilities maintenance department of the El Paso Independent School District. This system provided a proof of concept for the use of real time vehicle tracking services available on the supervisors desktop to visually track and report the location, direction, speed and loiter (parking) time of the selected vehicles. The trail provided the school district with data and with the outline for a system to reduce travel costs (time/mileage) and create efficiencies within the department's vehicular fleet. The system involves the use of GIS software and geo-coding of the district's facilities to identify the distances, travel times and locations of the service vehicles during normal working hours in real time. The GPS units were installed and supported by MIRATEK in the selected vehicles. The staff was trained on the proper use of the system. The trial was deemed successful and plans are expand the system. |
